    tranny question

sort of an odd question, but i was wondering if any one could point me in the direction of some information on the dog leg trans that was in the euro m3. (or any bmw dog let tranys for that matter)

hell, even a name would be a nice start.

For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.

    lots of good info there

what are some names for them? do they have much in common with 260s at all?
I'd like to run one, but i'm trying to figure out the easiest way of getting one.

you have two options. one is the gearbox out of an e21 or e30 323. this is a small gearbox that is similar to the gearboxes that came in 2002s and e21s (getrag 242/245). option two is the gearbox out of the e30 M3 or any M30 powered car (6 series, etc). this gearbox has a seperate bellhousing and will not bolt to your engine . you need a bellhousing off a 1982 528e to attach it to your motor. this is a large gearbox similar to early M30 powered cars (getrag 265).

you are aware that these gearboxes have a 1 to 1 5th gear , correct? 5th gear is the same ratio as your current 4th gear. fortunately , there are a large selection of diff ratios available for your car to compensate.

No i wasn't aware. but im ok with hunting around for an apporpriate diff.

So to use the 265 i would need a the bell housing out of a 528 eta? what about a e30 eta?

any particle means of going about finding a "242/245" (clairify name, maybe?) or 265 gear box?

for starters, set aside $1000 to $2000 dollars for just the trans.528e 1982 is the ONLY car with 265 to M20 bellhousing.

this is going to be one hell of a quest. this trans was imported into the states, right?
