Want to take a road trip - off the beatten path

So I really want to get out on the road this summer - I think I might end up in seattle and then head back to Santa Barbara (home) - but I'm not sure.

I was also thinking of heading out into the desert. I don't know why. I just need to excape for a while - and the though of never ending desert roads, and cheap hotels sounds appealing to me.

Any of you guys know of any cool road trip web sites? I keep comming up with nothing!

    Any advice?

Tell me about your road trip?

    THanks!

I took my eta through the rockies one summer and it was a blast.

Make sure you have good coolant and lots of tunes!

what's so special about seattle? you might as well head up to canada since you're going up to seattle if you do.

Take a trip down into Baja. I was down there a couple months ago, and man was it cool. Empty except for friendly people and great food everywhere for cheap. Or, if you wanna go in the desert, follow old Route 66 out into Arizona - such a cool, deserted road out there, beautiful scenery.

Thinking I might want to move there someday.

Yea, route 66 sounds good - not sure how far east I want to go before heading north.

Drove Rt66 from St. Louis to Albuquerque a few years ago.

It is really off the beaten path and quickly disappearing. If you wanna see what's left of it, I suggest you do it very soon. Maybe start in Santa Monica and work you way backwards for a bit.

Other roads I would highly suggest include:

                Natchez Trace Parkway

                Blue Ridge Parkway

These are all good roads for sightseeing at a leisurely pace. Good roads for driving "spiritedly" are:

                The Dragon and surrounding roads

                the roads around Hocking Hills

I can testify to all those roads first hand. If you head up to WA state do the "Run Around Ranier" (i.e., Sunrise and Paradise). The backroads to Leavenworth are fun, too, as is Chuckanut Drive from Bellingham down to Mount Vernon.

Going-To-Sun-Road is supposed to be spectacular, although I have never experienced this road first-hand (it's on the list).

Don't forget to stop in Portland/Vancouver to hang with some of us. Maybe I will make the drive from here to Seattle with you cause I got family up there. It's always more fun driving with another e30.
