Full Restoration

I have a 90 318 2 door now that i love. But i been thinking about getting a new E30 (has to be a 2 door , plastic bummer) and do a full restoration from frame up. And put some of my own idea's in of cause . I know where to get alot of the stuff already like seat cover, dash's, carpet, body parts. But if i go thought a full Restoration i would like a bran new engine ( rebuilt engine ) Is there a place that sells them or does a full rebuild on a engine.

Metric Mechanic does complete rebuilds on performance engines, not cheap though.

They are crazy with those prices the HP is the same or lower then stock for 8000 lol I can see if you get double the HP for that much money. I can get a LS1 twin turbo with like 475 HP for 6000

if you twin turbo a LS1 and only make 475whp your doing it wrong

Shit adds up fast - there's a lot of rubber pieces to replace.

How many miles on engine?
m42?
If it's under like 150K miles - there's likely to be much life left with proactive, preventative, engine maintenance.

I mean - yeah - replace all fluids/filters/hoses/etc. by all means - but money spent on an unnecessary rebuild could go a LONG ways in the suspension/exterior/interior departments.

I was thinking around 15k I just want to spend money smart. I thinking all start in the spring i need to start getting parts and find and new car. My 318 i own now i dont want to lose as a daily driver

Also make sure it's a car you really, really, want. You will never see anywhere near the money you spend if you decide to sell it. If you count the opportunity cost for the time spend, it starts to get ridiculous (think 1/10).

On the other hand it would be awesome to have a "brand new E30". I think Simon S did something similar to this. You should read though his build thread.
