Anyone in the Carolinas or that area ever heard of German Motor Werks BMW? Its in Forest City, NC. I'm buying a short block from them, and I'm checking if they're legit and dependable. Thanks people.

I've heard some good things and some very bad things about places in forest city, although i've never heard of that place, so I dont know which category it falls into.


I have to ask, why buy a short block and ship it across country?

Its an M52 aluminum short block that they're selling to me for $600. And I'm only buying a short block because I'm putting an S50 head on top of it.

i've had horrible experiences. A quick search about German Motor Werks should bring that up.

I bought a complete m20b25, harness, ecu, etc from them

first they "lost my address" when their power went out. I guess power went out across the city. I don't know about you, but if I unplug my comp, or cut power to it, it doesn't delete the entire harddrive

finally i get a hold of them, i forget what it took to get them to talk to me, maybe i had to bash them on r3v. either way, they say "oh we're so sorry, blah blah. here take this 88 m20b25 instead, it has 20k less than the one you were gonna buy. it's from an IX, but you just have to swap out the oil pans."
"are you sure? look at the motor. make sure"
"yea were sure. just swap pans"

nope. had to sell the fucking block. would have had to replace the pan, fill the fucking hole for the dipstick, make a new one, and I don't remember if it needed a different oil pump

regardless, when I do finally get the motor; they took off that hook by the timing cover, so it was a bitch to get off the palate.

Then, do a compression check, IT'S GOT A BLOWN FUCKING HEADGASKET!!!! to top it off, THE OIL PAN WAS CRACKED!!!!!!!!!!!

they never did anything to make up for it either

i think the best way to not lose money is to pick up the stuff yourself.


a friend of mine got a set of basketweaves from the guy for 200 i think. we picked them up, and the place is definately sketchy, as well as the guy being a little bit sketchy, but it was a good deal and everything worked out fine.

Yeah, I've decided not to take it. I'm going to get a full M52 and slap some M3 cams in it, do some OBD1 conversion stuff. Maybe I'll find an S50 head later. So, does anyone have M3/Schrick cams they want to sell?

I wouldnt spend your money on an s50 head if you have an m52 head already. Take some measurements, you will see. It's not worth it IMO.
Money is better spent on MAF, pulley, injectors, etc.
