    camping vehicle needed.

i need something to take camping more regularly. my car is a stressful situation when i drive it on the gravel roads to go camping and climbing. i have to dodge every rock and dip in the road.

I need something with more clearance and hopefully even 4wd.

    I currently have a 98 exploder with a 5.0 v8 thats blown the headgasket.

    SHOULD I? :
fix the explorer and fix the 4wd on it too. (could be 400-1000+)
sell the explorer for parts and salvage and buy : (id be lucky to get 700 for it)
some cheap 4x4 older suv or truck, ~2000$
    ^any suggestions?
or buy another e30 leave it on stock springs (4x4 style) and use it as a beater, (~1000)
or look for a decentt ix ? (about 3000)

give me some ideas and suggestions guys, Thanks!

xj jeep cherokee with the 4.0L with a 5 speed is what you need.

most can be found for less then $1500, and they never die

Picked mine up for less then a thousand 4wd 5 speed, amazing in the snow and has not let me down yet.

+1. We have an '89 351 powered Ford E350 we use for camping, along with any other of the 100+ uses for a van you can think of. Picked it up in great shape with good service records, brakes, and tires for $500.

The 4.0 is indestructible. I have 265 tires all around and i average about 18-20 hwy, mine currently has 203k miles and still running stong

I would stay away from the grand cherokees though, personal opinion

325iX- $3000 should get you a very nice example with a bit of looking (I paid that for my very clean '90 105k mile car)

Its basically a Subaru, but you don't look like a hippy or a lesbian.
