    Water behind passenger seat?

After a good down pour of rain I discovered that behind my passenger seat the carpet was soaked with water? Anyone know what would cause that, my car is a 86 325es by the way.

This exact same thing happened to me after a couple of days of heavy rain. My car had been parked slightly nose down in my driveway. Rain water accumulated in the channel under and around the trunk. I had a rusted out rivet that holds one of the hinges on the right top area of the trunk (below the rear windshield).

Water pooled and drained through this hole and accumulated in the jack well until if finally spilled over and ran into the cabin soaking the floor behind the driver seat, even getting into the front floor area. Absolute nightmare. I bailed out the jack well. Soaked up the water from the floor and epoxy filled the hole where the rivet rusted through. Check the rear seal around the trunk and look for anywhere water can get in.

    Good luck!

there are drainage holes under the carpet under black metal covers (like the ones that hide the fuel pump) Chances are the gasket on that is gone.

Mine is doing the same right now in its just on the back passenger side carpet thats wet. I gotta find a way to dry it before it starts to smell im thinking taking the whole carpet out, but this Norcal weather ....well....sux...and I dont have a garage. Anyway let me know (bimmerman17) if you find your source of the leak, maybe I can check there too because I still cant find where it might of leaked in from.

1,Make sure the roof drains are clear.
2, Make sure the tail light water seals are intact.
3, Pull the passenger side door card and make sure that the opague plastic vapor barrier is present and intact.
This piece of plastic sheet does major duty in preventing water that gets past the window trim/seals, from pooling at the bottom of the door and pouring in to the passenger floor.

One of the caps on a drainage hole in my car had fallen out, leaving a circle of carpet exposed to the outside world under the car. Needless to say every time I drove around in the rain the carpet would be soaked. Sucky, but an easy fix.
