a-ring-ding-ding-ding-ding wins again? Crazy ending, I wanted to see Alonso take him at the end or Button taking them both. I'm a Hamilton/Button and McLaren fan,(since no more BMW), so I was quite disappointed. Though I do agree, Lewis is taking out his frustration out the wrong way. I'm sure he was pissed all race about not being able to get a good poll position due to the crash at qualifying. He needs to show a little patience though, but it is Monaco and barely any room to pass so it must be frustrating.

Anyhow, McLaren had some misfortune somewhat, but that what makes F1 exciting and better than that other race that had their centennial today and that other oval that did 600 laps in a circle as well.

Nonetheless, I'm new to this forum and I love how theirs a F1 thread posted as a sticky. BTW, I'm hoping to get time off to watch the race in MTL...anyone going?

Where Petrov's car was on the track there was no way they could have gotten him out of the car and cleared the track without stopping the race. It was a narrow section just after the exit of one corner and the entrance to another. They couldn't use the crane since it was under the Monte Carlo sign and there was already a car off to the side in that area so they were kind of stuck. I think even if he had hopped right out, they still would have stopped the race atleast for a minute or two in order to get the car out of the way without putting the workers in danger.

Do you still get points if you crash? I would think even though the race reverts back a lap I find it hard to believe you would get points or even credit for finishing,,,, would it be a retired... otherwise it would give anyone within the points incentive to crash in the final few laps. I mean Vettel should have shunted his car in hungary if this is the case.


Also as soon as i read the petrov post I immediatly thought it was sarcastic,,, people need to lighten up, and not take EVERYTHING about race so damn serious. I actually laughed about the op, and then again that anyone took offense.

I don't know... just involved in a shunt that knocked you unconscious, but have the wits to request extraction via ambulance/assistance because you realized that your race is over and if they stop the race at that point, you stand to gain some championship points, because the standings revert back to the prvious lap? If that's true and he is that witty, he should be running the FIA, not just driving in it, Lol! I think you're giving a little too much credit to the wherewithal of a driver, foggy from a crash, being able to make a decision like that... ever been knocked unconscious? You come out of it in a fog so deep, you don't even know what species you are, let alone where you are, what you're in the middle of and what you were doing right before you got knocked out... no way Petrov made that decision because he knew he would stand to gain some championship points... no way...

Again, there is a huge difference from being sarcastic/joking and the honest to god truth. Try to find humor in situations or you life will be too cut and dry.

It would be classified as a finish, just like Maldonado was classified as finishing Monaco despite crashing out due to Hamilton 5 laps from the end. The reason people don't do it is because you are extremely unlikely to get them to red flag the race if you crash, because you would have to have quite a large one in an area that makes the race need to be stopped, and that is hard and dangerous to do, plus if you ef up, you get no points and the team hates you.

F1 seems to be getting better and better. I watched all the time when I was young, didn't watch much in high school or college except the occasional race and picked it back up in 2007.

Wish there hadn't been that last red flag.

It's not quite that bad (I came off my R6 at Hallett @ 65ish) and was knocked out long enough that they ended the session, but didn't send the ambulance out. Fucking bastards!

I definitely knew what just happened, but you are completely right about coming out in a fog like "WTF?" It took me something 60 seconds to even pull my gloves after I collapsed next to tow truck!

Well today the f1 website actually just posted that they have been approved, but postponement is still possible, i guess if the engine suppliers have trouble or something. I really wish they would allow ground effects again though like they were talking about but probably no one wants to race against an RBR with ground effects lol.

This. I might just add that you're classified as finishing if you make it to 75% race distance. I remember one race (I think '08 ) in Melbourne where Raikkonen's engine blew up with about 5 laps to go but he was classified in 8th place (and got 1 point), albeit being 5 laps down, because 9th and onwards were either further behind or retired.
