I have having issue and trying to nail it down when I crank the car the idle surges when cold and it is pretty crazy, but once warm it seems to go away. Now while on the throttle the car has hesitation. When I try to run through the gears it goes but there is definite hesitation? Any ideas, icv, afm, vacuum leak, I will check....anything else.. Can I do a smoke test myself? Thanks for any help

You're going to need to search. This question pops up all the time.
The most common problem is an intake leak, but I don't know if that still applies since your idle problems go away when warm. The next thing I'd check would be the ICV, just use some carb cleaner and clean that out. My next step would be checking the coolant temp sensor (check testing procedure in the Bentley manual if you have one), and then the O2 sensor.
