Has anyone looked into the Texas Mile?

I'm thinking about shooting for next year's run. I know the E30 is about as aerodynamic as my ex-girlfriend is, so I figure some real HP is needed to get it up there. I'm pondering the 160-mph and under class...my car will (by next year) be a supercharged M52B28 with hopefully around 300 whp.

So, have any of you dickheads contemplated your top speed? I'm thinking I just might have to do it for the hell of it.

my e30 with a m20b25, chip, exhaust, and intake topped out at 137 and it took forever to get there.

Well your M20 probably has ~160 whp. I couldnt see why 150-160 mph is out of reach for 300 whp?

John Reed from Oregon (friend of a friend) tuned a TT Gallardo and broke the car record at 250.1mph back in March.

I was just sharing my e30s top speed. Based on that i dont see a reason why a car with double the hp couldnt reach 160mph. As long as you have the right gearing with that 300whp you should easily obtain your goal.

For example, the Mazda Speed 3 has 263 crank HP out of the box and is limited to 155mph.

Ah very well. Does anybody have that nice excel sheet with all the gearing already plugged in for the ZF trans and whatever diff you wanted?

Hell – I’d be game for a sanctioned top-speed run event.
                Sounds like fun.
Get ‘er low, get ‘er mean, tape up body seams, and go for it.
                Maybe fabricate under body panels?

Seams like I read somewhere that the e30 drag coefficient isn’t as bad as you’d think..

I can’t ever wrap my head around what 250mph would be like. Wow. That Gallardo would get your ass to work on time.

There was a thread a while back that showed an E30's drag coefficient was 0.3 or something, which was less than a Ferrari Testerossa's. I could be totally wrong about the number, and the model of ferrari, but I know it's not THAT bad.

just noted the 'run' is a mile - then a 1/2 mile for stopping

I wonder how many miles it takes for a typical street car to 'top out'?
