What engine puts out more power

A 1989 325i rebuilt engine potted and polished with a shaved head and advance timing

Or

A 1985 stock bottom eta engine with a 731 head with double valve springs and I intake and latemodel harness

I ask because idk which one to put into my car.

Id say overall power output would be similar. However the longer stroke of the 2.7 would lend itself to higher torque than the stock 2.5. But at the same time the smaller intake ports on the 731 head would cut your top-end figures compared to the 885 in the 2.5 engine. Also, due to different port-sizes an I intake on a 731 head would actually be detrimental.

the 325i engine, if only because its rebuilt and therefore fresh and new. i doubt the power it would make would be much different from stock.
