Hi.
Its kind of lunch break, and i just got got to get that out...
So, runnign off to Fred Meyers to grab some foam for a upholstery exercise yesterday evening, gettign to the shop..no problem.
Load the car, and start....and the sodding key didnt turn.
Couple of whacks, swearing, dw40 i thoguht of being clever and wanted to remove the steering wheel, which was pointless as the wheel lock was engaged.
Yea yea...bad mood makes angrier and doesnt let you focus.
Wife came by and brought all my spare keys..well none worked.
So..no way to get the car to run. (325e). Called a tow truck and...60mm drop front and 40mm drop ...a piece of apper would have barely fit between exhaust and front lip wihtout using some wood to lift the car beign pulled up.
Kind of lucky, I straighten the driveline before locking the wheel, so it was parked straight, however in after-work-busyness food shopping traffic.
Took almost an hour to get the car moved in and out and onto the tow truck.
Dropped at home, overnight sleep...this morning i was ready to walk to work...
tried the lock again anyways..
2 whacks later...the key turned. :D
At work then i decided to remove the steerign wheel prior trying the locks function "just in case", whcih was a good idea.
Sodding lock gave in completely.
Removed the plastic housing from the steerign column under obseration of my over-curious colleagues, had a closer look and one pin is wedged within the lock. (the second pin)
no matter what i tried, its so not moving. maybe metal shave from the ages combined with a vaporized spring caused that...no idea..no care.
steerign wheel out of the way, i could pull the pin from the steering wheel lock and the ignition switch... and at least am able to start and drive..guaranteed to be pulled over if a law enforcement office is next to me and sees all the loose parts.
Well, now havign everythgin exposed anyways, not sure what to do.
1st, ill try again to remove the lock. else ill drill it out somehow.
then its either...new lock..
or soem form of pushbutton start.
the pushbutton, though pretty much JDM..seems appealing as..i barely use keys anyway.
So a possible alternative idea vs a lock replacement is:
#: wire a starter interrupt relay thign to the remote.
>>>need remote to engage
#: hook up and make sure the OBC display thign s ant theft is working, and enable.
>>question: how easy is it to reset those? anyone?
#: add some rocker switch for key positions...
#:add pushbutton and wire in a normal use carbutton (e.g. use power window switch as additional toggle, light switch (at least half way out position), soemthing like that.
But theres my struggle with cool or somehow useful to do vs laziness..
any comments welcome.
I dont really want to destroy the "original" style with too many JDM impressions, what i got in already is bad enough...
