Whats a good weight for wheels?

What will a good wheel weigh? Give me some ranges like whats too high, and at what point im gonna start loosing acceleration power.

    as light as possible.

Some great wheels get under 10lbs. Those tend to be pretty much intended for track use.

    Good wheels hover around 14-18.

    Heavy is anything higher.

Stock ones are 14-16 I believe.

Ronal and Alpina wheels are 16-18. Not too bad.

You also have to add size to that equation. The wider and taller the more rubber in the tire and the heavier the combo. Also the farther the weight is from the center of rotation, not good.
    Im now E30less.

Some people believe 21lbs is too heavy (Alpina Kopis - 17x7.5)

So my 16x7.5 Borbet Type T's are also fat - 21lbs as well. For reference, I weighed my wheels and tires = 43lbs. Seem crazy right? Well stock 14" basketweaves with tires weighed were 34 lbs together, with much less wheel width and less tire. 9lbs worth the better looks of a wider wheel, and much much better handling? You decide! 8)

As far as lightweight wheels..... Kosei's are like 14-15 lbs for 15in, SSR Comps: 16x7=11lbs, BBS RK's are also pretty light.

Members on this board will generally say in the teens is a good weight. My opinion is that added width is worth the weight.

Note: Unsprung weight - i.e. wheels and tires and brakes - make a bigger difference than weight otherwhere on the vehicle. So maybe 9lbs each wheel seems like 100lbs elsewhere. It affects momentum and therefore acceleration/deceleration. Where the weight is located also affects the moment of inertia.....(weight closer to the center of the rim is better).......... physics, yum ;)

here's a link to a thread about "good, light 16inch wheels" so it might be helpful

        best deal on any wheel

$109 for a new round not bent scratched used etc.

this is one of two good spec e30 wheels the other being about 20-30 each higher.

A pound for an inch is a good yardstick. For example, a 16" rim that weighs under 16lbs is solid.

But like they said, the lighter the better. I don't think I will ever justify changing my 14" basketweaves.
