Take off the cap of your expansion tank and give it gas. If the coolant goes in your face your pump is working. Also if you feel the hoses and feel liquid moving inside, your pump is working

Either bleed it properly or perhaps you have a head gasket leak

If you were in the OTHER Milwaukee I would be happy to come over and help you out.

Anyways. Is it overheating when you are stopped, or overheating while cruising at 40mph+?

If it overheats only when you are stopped then look into replacing the fan viscous coupling.

If it overheats while cruising over 40mph then you most likely have air in the cooling system and need to bleed it properly (remember to keep the heater valve set to full HOT when bleeding)

This is all assuming that you are not an idiot and that the coolant level is correct, thermostat is good like you say it is, and theres not a large mammal stuck to the radiator.

If you have any questions about the replacement of the fan or bleeding procedure, search, and if you come across posts made by Jlevie or nando then you can feel extra confident that they are legit.

          Insert fart noise here

That's helpful. Have you used the search recently when you actually had a problem you needed a reliable, decent answer from? Ridiculous.

What maintenance have you done recently if any? When did this problem occur? Any possible idea what preceeded this or what it might possibly be?
          Need a part? PM me.

I had it in the shop and they changed the - guibo joint / flex disc fixed changed a month or so ago. So I was in a parking lot in 2nd gear sliding around and noticed it was smoking and HOT! so i let it cool down and drove it home which was right down the street. I changed the radiator then let it idle for awhile and it still overheated. I checked the lower radiator hose and it wasnt hot and didnt feel like anything was getting to it So i took out the thermostat and checked it and it was fine.. opened and closed fine. So now Im looking to get someone out here haha cuz thats as far as my knowledge goes :(

Is the belt for the waterpump still there?
You "changed the radiator", does that mean you replaced it with a different one? New one? If you replaced the radiator you need to bleed the air out of the system. Search "coolant bleed" or something on here.

it took me about 2 hours to bleed the system the last time i did it.

                          Hey !kid,

My buddy and I have found a quicker way to bleed E30's, its kind of a cheat but it works. Blast heat, take cap off of radiator, rev piss out of the engine, let it idle, watch for bubbles, fill with coolant, repeat for about 15 minutes and this usually does it. It can also help if you jack the front of the car up too.

Make sure you have the front of the car elevated when you bleed the system to do it properly.
