Any ways about a week ago I Had the alternator belt come off, engine overheated and damaged the Block. If I'm going to yank the M30 out I want to put in either a full rebuild engine, or a E34/E32 3.5 litter block. Neither of which I have the money for. Also while pulling the cylidner head to determine the damage extent I noticed that my Passenger frame rail is in realy bad shape(bent and twisted). Latter this week I'm going to be picking up 2 325e's one with a running engien but bad tranny and one with a snapped t-belt and good 5-speed with new clutch put in less then 200 miles ago. The Engine out of one will go into the other to make one good running car. Both cars have perfectly straight body's so I'll be swapping the full suspension, dash, interior, roll bar out of my car into it. The M30 will return, I'm going to slowly work on finding a 3.5 block and doing a full rebuild on it to get dropped back in at a latter date.

:x God dammit! The man who influenced me to build my own M30 is back to square one. The sucks.
You should be able get an M30 from an E34/E32 with starter for about $600. Freight may kill you if its not local though.
Don't think Im going to wait up for your ass though  Turbo starts this winter with or without you!
Good luck... take plenty of pics. I'll host for ya. Stupid black and white bentley pictures.
Edit - p.s. - just went to check alternator pump... looks good to me.
Edit 2 - p.s.s - what caused the bent frame rail? any clues?

Well When I purchased the car the passenger frame rail was bent but not twisted. The car had been run into an embankment and stragithened out as much as they could get it. I think a combo, of my stiff suspension, front strut tower brace and more power engine cuased the already soft metal to twist. So since I have to yank the motor I'm going to swap everything to a different chassis. Which may be a while, for the mean time I'm going to swap my fuel injection over to my 1981 633csi so I can get it running. Then I'll slowly look for a good e30 canidate and an E34/E32 3.5 engine to drop in.
At least this time around, I have all the parts already and everything figured out so I can drop an m30 straight in. I boxed up the main bits today, like wiring, ecu, electric fan and custom harness I made and a few other bits. I'm going to part out the car, but keep all my good expensive stuff like springs, strut bars, interior, roll bar and the like.85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker

Don't worry Michael I'll try my hardest to get it back up and going as quick as money will allow. My 633csi has a perfect body, 8.5 out of 10 paint and no rust so for now I'm going to focus on getting it running then. Getting another e30 and dropping an m30 in. I would just yank the engine out of the 6 but the way the Frame rail is dosn't sit well with me. :?85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker

I am almost 90% sure the local german auto yard here would have a m30b35.
do you need a head too? I think John bought his m30 for $300, good bottom end with a decent head. he just rebuilt the head and left the bottom.
I will call tomorrow. if if works out that he has one cheap I will put it on a damn truck and bring it to you.
Actually there are three places I can think of off the top o fmy head local for me... I will call them and find a 3.5 for you.
Oh if it all works our can i help put it in????? PLEASE PLEASE!!
