i think this is referring to his drift eta, which is pretty dang low and driven pretty dang hard.

this thread is funny. you guys must not have ever driven a fwd car made in the 80's. The steel oil pans are less rigid then the aluminum pans and bend like crazy to the point where it would break your oil pump. But last i checked they were only $20 for my VW so its pretty much a disposable design like a condom.

E21 323s (m20) all have steel oil pans. Also all 2002s (m10) and i believe all E21 320s (m10) have steel oil pans.

That is correct. E21 318i has a steel pan as-well.

Im having a guy I just met on another forum modify a 318 steel pan for my M52 turbo. He just got a job at a machine shop and thinks he can do it.
He also said he could fab all sorts of custom parts and some carbon fiber too

Why not just a rubber oil pan?

Screw rubber! Use clear lexan! fuh raze easy oil level checking!

Seriously, though, I drive an M42. I have 3, maybe 3.5 inches from pan to ground. Knock on wood, I haven't even scraped anything yet, and I've been driving it for 2 years like this.

Great idea. Like when I smacked the lower (steel) oil pan on my m10 318i and instead of just busting open like an aluminum pan would have, it folded under, taking the upper pan and oil pump with it.

Aluminum is fine. Get a skid plate if you're that worried.
