    Help (bought a mopar)

Anyone know anything about these things? I bought the car figuring it was a decent car, needs minor stuff. 1975 Plymouth Valiant Brougham, 4 door green on green, bucket seats, 3 speed 904 torqueflight column shift with a 318 under the hood, open rear. That's about all I know about it. Got it for $1000.
    Jah bless! :pimp:

what you wann aknow about them? that is a light little car as far as that erra went. the 318 isnt horrible and there are things you can do to wake it up a little. 904 trans isnt as good as the 727 but not horible. have fun with it.

Haha I know I'm going to upgrade the trans if it blows or I find a 727 at the parts yard. Looking for cheap parts right now, maybe a cheap mopar source? I'm specifically looking for all four armrests in green, ideas on a headliner as well. Also looking for a glovebox latch, a brougham specific hubcap (green preferred) and an interior light lens.

Plans are to go with a 4 barrel carb, and a nice quiet muffler with some mandrel bent piping, some cutouts... then keep start building up a 340 or 360.

Is the 340 a high performance motor? Or should I overlook it and search for a 360?

Was a member over there when I had my '66 New Yorker. Someday I will have another. Good group of folks over there. Just don't act like a retard and you'll be fine.

You over payed for that 4 door a-body...

A 360 will be easier to find then a 340, The 340 is a hi-po motor only, unlike the 360 where it was a car and truck engine 2 or 4bbl. The 904 will be fine as long as you beef it up, and you need to find a a-body 8 3/4 rear. Cause that small rear in it will not take much..

Tisk tick.. 904 is plenty for the 318, and easy as pie to rebuild.. really ;)
red neck shift kit.. Remove the pump spring and back out the fluid presure set screw all out till it runs out of thread then turn back in three full turns..
318's love cams, Rv's are cheap and cool for DD use$150, they love a good holley 500-600cfm $150-200, and headers $200. Lose the points and go to a pertronix touchless points $60.. Always carry a spare fillter fram PH8A $8 trust me..
These motors are much like the m20 when it comes to the timing chain
318"s don't break like the m20, but they do strech allot (as much as 8*)
Watch the steering box, keep it tight..

            have fun..;)

Also if you go 360, you'll have to use a torq converter for a 360 since they are ex-balanced.

Pretty much what everyone above me said. ;)

I'm not too big on the 4-door A-bodies, and the Brougham grandma cars especially.......that being said, early seventies mopars in general are getting stupid expensive, so it's hard to find anything at all for a grand.

904's will take a beating fine behind any smallblock, and even though the 318 gets no love from the hardcore mopar guys, they can be built up to produce some good numbers. Dump all of the smog crap, find as many 340 parts as you can and you will be off to a good start. You already have front disc brakes and electronic ignition, so that's a couple of the bonuses of picking up a later model.

Plus it's a big bolt pattern car. So if you would want to do something with the wheels, they will be easier to find. Say like a nice set of rally wheels with the 70 or 71 centers...

And if you go 360, the oil pans on the trucks are rear sump. where the cars are mid. Plus a 360 pan will only fit a 360. 273-318-340 pans will not fit.

Google info on the famous Green Brick that ran in the One Lap Of America races.

Mopars have always beens my first love, til I found BMWs and e30s! Can't afford a good Mopar anymore but at the moment I can enjoy the hell out of e30s!

now find an nice 2 door body, and part out/cut up that 4 door to make a cool car out of a 2 door chassis.
any way, have fun with it!
