1984 318i 5 speed fuel issue possible 2nd gear issue?

hey guys i know theres tons of valuable info here on r3vlimited. so i'm seeking some help.
i've been looking to buy an e30 for a couple months and i come with no luck really alot of blown head cars and people who don't know what they're talking about.
i recently found this post,http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/2215249253.html the car looks cherry besides the fact its a 318 vs a 325.. but how much of a difference is that really.
i contacted the guy and he said the only issue is a little bit of a tug in high rpm 2nd, he said his stepfather "mechanic" said it was a fuel issue. just wondering what could this really be? and could it cost me a lot to fix or possible be a simple sparkplug misfire or something like that. please help and thanks for your help in advanced, im excited about finally joining r3vlimited, ive spent hours browsing through peoples post finding great info :D

You really don't know the difference between a 318 and 325? If you spent hours browsing you must have figured some of this stuff out yes?

    4cyl vs 6cyl
    drum rear brakes vs discs
    thin front struts
    non vented front rotors
    little to no power options
early car = ugly bumpers and no rear valance
early car = crappy seats that make a mess or smell

e30s are not rare, keep looking and getting an 87+ 325i unless you have a reason to get an early 318 or 325e car and spend crap load on top.

That car is also overpriced, how is it cherry if it's got a cracked dash?

    Keep looking

      oops

lol my bad i didn't mean it literally when i said what's the difference, i know 18's are 4cyl and 25's are 6cyl, i ment like what's the difference as in i probably wont need the power of the 6cyl. my bad for the confusion! but yeah i'd prefer the 325is.... i'm just having trouble finding a nice one for a good deal. i'm working with a budget of about 2k (unfortunately.)

that's too much for that car, I think. I paid $400 for mine with an alternator issue. needed a tail light and that's really it. the rest of the car was in good to great condition, but dirty. I drove it home with a full tank of gas.

any major issues with running I would just stay away from, and anything with rust. I guess in CA it isn't that hard to find a clean car, but it can be over here.

good luck on the search, but unless you can get him down to like 600-700 or so, I would pass honestly. fuel issues would be in EVERY gear, not just one.

over priced. bout my eta with a fresh rebuilt motor lowered with basket weaves for 800 bucks. needed a radiator and later on needed a new fuse box. 6k miles later still runs strong. if you plan on buying an older e30 plan on dumping some money into it.
