Agreed, although if you can't afford an aftermarket SSK, a Z3 1.9 lever and new bushings should suffice.

If I had $1k, and I had to/were going to spend it on my car, I would probably have my iS airdam, hood and driver's side fender repainted. The airdam has a lot of stress cracks and chips in it, the hood has a few good scratches in it and a few chips, and the fender has a lot of chips, most that were touched up with paint, and not very well. I plan to do this eventually anyway, so if it were to be on something frivelous, it would probably be on wheels and tires. It's still one of the big ticket items I'd like to do on the car.

Save it for when your old car breaks down so you don't have a new bling piece, but can't drive it because you can't afford to repair it.
If you are in HS, save it for college.
If you are in college, save it for booze.
If you have a gf, hide it.
If you don't, save it for when you meet some half decent girl and need $ for dates.
Invest.
Buy cocaine and forget you drive an eta.
Buy 4 more Ansa exhaust systems.
Buy a M50 to go fast, but realize your suspension is junk.
Buy rims and realize your suspension is junk.
Turbocharge your car with junkyard parts and realize you should have remember about suspension, tires, brakes.
Buy suspension and wheels, and overlook the fact you are driving on bald tires.

Borrow another $1000, get a Mtech-1 kit, and get it painted, then have a nice looking car with junk suspension, junk tires, and an eta motor.

I have spent about 1250 on parts so far with more to spent at the dealership(getting my AC working, and electrical troubleshooting). The 1250 consists of a pioneer 6700 head unit, a new fender, ANSA exhaust, new BF goodrich traction T/A's, koala door braces( not worth $40 but fuck I got em now), other small stuff like lighted switches and stuff. I hope that the dealer doesnt fuck me on the cost of my AC I know it needs a new evaporator core and recharged and a belt that I cut off to gain all of about 2hp at the most and my underdash wiring that I hacked to shit trying to take out some cheap shit security system that tried my patience. I think the SI batt board needs replacing(funny fuel gauge and speedo reading randomly) but I should have around a grand left by the end of next week. I feel that bilstein sports are a must with HR springs and the chip and ECU sound good. I hacked my shifter down about an inch and a half makes a difference but feels like a redneck thing not a german thing.
New bushings like urethane tranny mounts and offset control arm bushings sway bar bushings are a consideration. I want to do an electric fan too. Sound like a big list, I am going to try and do all of this within a week. Wish me luck.

I got a 100 dollar E30 recently, going to spend a bit making it nice and some surprises. Sounds like you've got your hands full though, so picking up a beater may not be worth it.

I'd say go for suspension once you get those other things wrapped up. If you have anything left spend it on maintenance items before they go out on you.
