    Nissan help

    I am about to start a whole bunch of work on my buddies 2000 Nissan maxima GLE 3.0L v6. I am not really worried about any of the jobs but the only one I have a question about is the rear backing plates. Am I going to have to remove the hub to get the originals off and the new ones on? Or can I slightly modify them to get them to go on and off without having to pull the hub? Thanks in advance.

      Yes exactly the metal shield behind the rotor in the rear.

        I did the rear brakes on my mom's Infinity (basically the same car) I struggled with trying to push the pistons back into the calipers to make room for the new, thicker pads. I googled it, found a forum, and it turns out the pistons screw in. The site said you need a special tool (a 2 pronged looking thing) I managed with my needle nosed pliers. Didn't need to get as far as the backing plates on my mon's car. Try googling - there's a lot of support out ther. Good luck.

          Ya I know about the rear screw calipers for the parking brake, I do have the tool for that, but thanks for looking out.

          Anyone have any ideas about the plate?

            k well figured i would finish this thread just in case anyone in the future has the same question (likely I know) :loco::roll::roll::roll:.

            Yes the hub has to be removed however no puller or anything but a breaker bar and a 30mm socket is required. once the 30mm nut is off, the hub comes off by hand; then you just have to unbolt the backing plate and get a new 30mm nut since they are one time use.

            sorry for the bump but figured I would finish what I started.

              why exactly did you need to remove the dust shield?
              to work on the maximas sophisticated rear suspension?

                oh no just to replace the shield it was made of more rust than metal and was causing a grinding/squeaking noise, I picked it up and it fell in half.

                    180 ft-lbs. with a new nut. then clinched the two sides of the nut
