I am liking the s42/building up the m42 to a 2.0l considering I already have the engine I may just go that route. What is the reasonable limit to the power output on an N/A m42, on pump gas. Also any links to peoples past m42 N/A BUILDS, or am I going in a rarely seen direction.

FYI I have nothing against going F/I I just like the idea of having something rarely seen. Making some good numbers.

Seems like the poll is not stacking up well for your friend xD I say the last one also, seems logical.

There are a couple getting around on M42club. I can't remember the guys name but he built up a 2.1lt with a diesel crank and s50 pistons that was putting out 220hp last I heard.

There was also another guy with M44 crank and S50 pistons for 2.0lt it was pretty much a rebuilt with cams that was putting out 180hp so they are by no means mass hp but they are fun and you have the bragging rights to owning a 2.0lt M42. You would probably be in the area of 0-60 in 6-5 sec.

        Found some linkies

        180hp build http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2971

Same guy quest for 280hp n/a currently in the process http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6396

^ yep, not to mention the better weight distribution. m42 318iS is the best-handling stock e30, and an extra 40-50hp would go a long way. That's nearly a 50% increase. Pair it with some Schrick cams, COP conversion and a MAF setup and you're talking M3 territory.
