There is something to be said about having a newly rebuilt engine though...and I'd be pissed off if I swapped in a 24v just do have to rebuild it in 2 years....anyways this argument has been beaten to death a few times.

    OP go search, fer cereals.

    2.8 Crank $250
    Tall cam $500
    MAF kit $300
    Chip tune/War chip $300
    Re-build, machining etc. $1000?

Oh and I forgot about the pistons you're gunna need custom piston: $500
    That about right?

So over $3k for a belt driven cam sewing machine?

That's damn near as much as dropping in an s5x and gets you what 20whp?

    Just saying,
    what ever...
He's looking for a cheap setup with a hp gain...

he's got the block, pistons, and head
    M52 crank 250 with front spacer 60
    eta rods.. Dirt cheap.
    Rebuild...

All this is just a Hp add on
    not really needed..
    Tall cam $500
    MAF kit $300
    Chip tune/War chip $300

No matter what, he's going to at least do a rebuild..
So why not throw in a 2.8 crank..
No fab, no crazy harness mods, no multi part list..

    Fuck it LS swap..

    i vote for 2.8 m20.

also add MAF conversion, 19lb injectors, fuel pump and FPR, tune, and exhaust. should pull in excess of 200HP.
