If all it really needs is the oil pan I would say definitely. I would be kind of leery of buying a car without ever hearing it run or driving it. It may be in need of shocks/bushings etc, but w/o driving it you'll have a hard time determining that.

Probably needs an oil pump/pickup too since it says the pan is "cracked top to bottom".

I would be most concerned with the amount of time the engine ran with the oil pickup un submerged. If it was a smallish crack and the oil drained slowly, then you might be okay.

I asked him about the motor and his response was "Yea I think the motor is done!" Not sure if it is seized or if any of the motor is usable.

Depending on the rest of the car, I'd still do it. If everything else is good it'd be the perfect candidate for a 24v swap :)

I have thought about that. Kinda depends on the overall cost of the swap.

I am a newbie when it comes to e30's. I have an E36 M3 and will be using this as a commuter.

My wife is afraid that it will be a motor swap that will never get finished so if there are good pointers out there to do this quick and easy I'm all about hearing them.

Thanks a lot guys and if anyone else has any other thoughts let me know.

Sounds like a $500-$800 car too me.

Personally, if a clean shell like that popped up around here, I would've picked it up right away for $1k.

I'll just say that it's getting harder and harder to find good straight shells. I'd bite.
