    fucked story, accident/insurance related.


    so this is the result of my rear ended accident a couple weeks ago. Cracked halfshalf. My car was in gear, and rear ended.

    BMW dealership diagnosed the problem but wont say its related to accident. I stated to the dealership the fucking vibration happened after the accident. So its my word against theirs for insurance reimbursement. Fuck this whole system.

    BMW and insurance can always say this type of damage is age related.

    It's very unlikely the accident caused that. It would have to move the diff forward a ton, and hard enough to crack steel. More then likely just a coincidence that it happened at/near the same time.

      True, that would have to be a hell of a hit to move the diff. You would have way more to worry about than a failed U-joint.

      Just by another prop shaft and call it a day.

        so rebuilt driveshaft or one with replaceable u joint? Where can I get a replaceable u joint shaft?

          A drive line shop can replace U-joints, lots of times at very reasonable prices. Or find yourself another drive shaft.

            Indeed it is accident related.
            I see it all the time @ my bodyshop.
            The diff did not move forward or anywhere. The engine/trans moved back.
            I've also had an e30 get rear ended and it cracked off both trans mounting ears.

            E30 M3 / E30 325is / E34 525iT / E34 535i

              ^ I'm with this guy. The first thing that came to my mind is that your tranny and/or engine mounts are old which allowed them to move relative to the diff which can't really move in that direction.

              If I were you I wouldn't want my insurance to be involved for fear of having my premium change. New joint shouldn't be too expensive.

                The dealership isn't against you. trust me, the dealer would love to sell the part and install it, its just that they know the insurance company will not cover it and someone is going to have to eat the cost of it and the labor. They are actually doing you a favor.

                I get soldiers all the time crying that we should replace, do more- as a dealership we have our hands tied and can only do what BMW or insurance companies tell us.

                it does suck for you though.
