Anybody have any experience with these? There aren't any to drive around here and I was wondering if someone could tell me about them. Do they feel as big as they look? Are they almost as sporty as my 325iS would be? Are they just as quick? I need teh infoez!!!1!1!!!!1one

Ask "m3ryan" - he's got a nice one - best upgrades is a shorter diff, and shocks and springs and replace worn suspention componets - it's a night and day difference.
I'm amazed at how sporty the car feels now. But it is big, it is heavy - but it very roomy. Just don't get a m20 powered e28 - they suck.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?

I like mine, but I am going to sell it at the end of the year. I have done quite a bit of work to it, all of which have made it feel better.
They are bigger and feel heavier than your 325iS. They make a great daily driver, other than the gas mileage. I average around 17mpg if I don't beat it up too bad, less if I drive moderately hard...
They are pretty cheap to maintain if you do your own work and are just as simple as an E30 is with bigger components. The upgrades available for brakes are endless, the steering and bushings need attention if they are worn but for under 1k you can have a complete new suspension on it.
Let me know if there are any other specific questions you want answered.'88 M3.2 S54 Lachssilber/Black

M3Ryan, any specific problems I should look out for on these things? I know that they tend to have a "front end shimmy" which means the control arms or something are worn out. I heard that from somewhere... The big thing that steers me away from these is the fact that I like to autocross, and I'm not sure if I could see myself slingin' a huge sedan through some cones. Anybody? Anybody?
In any case, I do want to get my hands on one. I need to taste something different than an E30. I can't believe I just said that.Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
Mark: "You never will."

Front end shimmy could be a number of things. We've had just about every possible one in our e28. We've got new control arm bushings, new tie rods and steering arm (you'll lose rack and pinion steering). But the biggest issue we had was brake rotors. Cheap pads tore up our rotors and caused horrible front end shake. Rear "dog bone" bushings can also cause shake, as well as subframe bushings.
I like ours even though it is a 528e auto, its still a fun car to drive. It does handle pretty well when you've got it set-up. Even on stock suspension and 215/60/15s the car sticks pretty good. Only downside is its heavier and your stuck with diving boards worse than any e30.Old and improved:

my dad has a 1990 535iA, with the crappiest automatic tranny ever built. it has gone bad twice, maybe the second time due to the first shops fault though. but it is powerful, and rides like a dream.
whenever i get behind the wheel of that thing, it really makes me feel confident when i drive. i feel a little arrogant too though. because the car is so badass looking, nothing happy about it. its just the shit, and it knows it is.
i do experience hardcore shimmy when braking though, and its not the wheel balancing or the rotors. i believe its my suspension components, just dont know how to pinpoint it.
i love that car a lot more than my e30 for the fact that it is very roomy inside, has a much more refined interior, and has plenty of creature comforts that the e30 lacks.Claus Luthe is my hero.

The TD that is funny to me.
The e28 I have been driving (wife's old car 528e), love it! 330k and it runs like a champ cold a/c and it is fun to through the backend out on gravel roads. gets 25mpg, it has a slight shimmy too as everyone else has mentioned. Love the seats and the car is rock solid.E30 325ix 62k
