I talked to an uhpolstery shop about replacing my rear window. He'd done it a few times, and he recommended strongly against it. Pretty much, if it's not a zip-in, you have to cut up the top and then sew it back together, which causes leaks and bad things. Easier to just replace the whole thing, and probably cheaper.

It does not seem to make ANY sense that an arguably fragile and easily damaged part would be impossible to replace on its own.
There's a guy on ebay that sells the sew in windows for 80 - comes with replacement instructions too.
I would hate to have to replace the whole top - it's damn near new.

Well arn't some rear windows replacable, like w/ some sort of zipper? I think I heard that somewhere, and mine definately isn't. It sort of seems to make sense that cutting a hole in a piece of fabric and then trying to patch it up would cause problems

I believe it has something to do with removing the stitching, replacing the plastic, then resewing.
I'm half tempted to just tape the fucking thing up. Stupid plastic window. Top's never going up unless it's raining, and who cares what the window looks like so long as it keeps the rain out.
