I've had an odd chain of events over the last 2 weeks with my e36. I have a '95 odb1 325i sedan.
Before any of this started, the car ran fine, no apparent issues whatsoever. I had just redone the serpentine belt and suspension maintenance a month or so earlier.
Here's what's happened:
Car sat outside at home for 2 days. I went out to run some errands and found the car was dead. Jumped the battery, car started up instantly drove off, grabbed some gas and ran my errands.
The car sat for another 3 days. Went out to meet a client and the car was dead again. Jumped the battery (again), car started up instantly, I drove off to my meeting. I got home and noticed a popping noise from my rear speaker. Saw that the speaker was grounding to the car so I removed the speaker and the respective fuses to make sure that it was in fact the speaker that was causing the power draw.
The next day I went out and started the car without any real problem but it took a few seconds to fire up. Went back inside to work (I work from home).
The day following (so this is day 6 so far) I went out to check the car and it wouldn't fire up. I pulled the battery and hooked it up to my charger. The battery was officially dead as it would only charge to 66%.
I've been crazy busy so I had to let it sit for a few days, and today I went and bought a brand new Die Hard battery at Sears. Dropped it in the car and went to start it. Now it won't fire...
The starter is working, the car is trying to turn over but it won't fire and I have 1/2 a tank of gas.
On the days where I was able to jump the car and drive it, there were no signs of misfiring or anything else. The car drove like it always did.
Tomorrow I am going to check my coils and make sure I'm getting spark. If Not It's either the CPS or DME Relay. Also, is it a possible that my ECU is fried - in that event, can I swap chips from my silver label ECU w/EWS into another, known working, Silver Label ECU?
I do smell gas when I try to crank the car, so that leads me to believe it's not a fuel issue...
Am I missing any other possible issues that would affect the car from firing up?
