Baum tools 115000 (block drilling plate)

does anyone know the specs of this drilling plate? im workin on a customers 528i and he over heated it and i need to drill the block and insert timeserts. needless to say its almost pointless for me to buy a tool from BAUM that will only get used one time. so making it would be A LOT cheaper!

    thanks

Really? It's only $400 tool? The 3 hours of labor I charged drilling and timeserting my first block and it nearly payed for itself.

Borrow Dan's and kick him a hundred bucks or something. He doesn't use it every day. Just move the charge for renting the tool to the customer's bill. I thought you were planning to do a lot more BMW work in the future? I did 3 of these in a week once, this is a common occurence. Having the right tools makes it dead easy.

For 100 I would use my steady hands and tap it myself. Never had a guild line, just look at the other studs angle and go from there.

We're talking about drilling an engine block here, not some homo-erotic Disney fantasy experience.....

lol i already asked dan if i could borrow/ rent it and he said no. so were gonna try to make a templat to be able to drill 4 holes at a time and just move it everytime.

yea were gonna be doing a lot of BMW work but no often do we have these problems here.... lol it not charlotte where theres 10 million BMWs every corner u take lol

and drilling it without a template on a block is CRAZY but it can be done lol

What exactly is this used for? Obviously drilling holes in the block, but for what?

pretty sure it's to drill out the threaded holes in the block where the head bolts go so they can have helicoil inserts installed. When these engines overheat, they tend to pull the threads out of the block.
