    Proper Rags

So I've been enjoying GRM with my NASA membership. But seeing Whitney's 325is and hearing about the article with the comparison, I ordered the back issue, along with a few others.

    Good read, Great read.

    Summary:
M3 is best sports car, obviously. And sexiest. But engine is buzzy and no a lot at the low end, so it sucks around town.
325is can be a great performer with some work, and is a great budget car.
318is is about the same as the 325is and makes up for lack of power with nimble handling and lower weight.

No news there.....but good to read it in GRM, and not the internet.

    Other issues:

In the same issue as the 3 comparison, there is the best car for any budget. Which is a good read.

I wish I had picking these magazines up while in HS rather than Super Street.

It is. It is in the article. I don't get how he gets included in the article and acts like the biggest douchebag here......

everyone buy this back issue. It's worth it for the article and this one:

August 2002: Best car for any budget.
$10,000 road racer = Spec RX-7 or Spec Miata. (Since this old publication, Spec Miata has blown up and its filled with people with pockets and talent, yet it is still the CHEAPEST club racing fix.)

Autocross, $5000 = 89-91 Honda Civic Si. Also CRX Si. Celica ST, Mazda MX-6, Neon ACR.....Gstock under $5K.

For example: (bar in mind, 2002 pricing)
        94 Celica ST for $3800
        Konis $350 private party
        14x6 alloys $85
        Tires (2 free, 2 new) $240 shipped
        Toyota factory-authorized camber bolts $8
        and alignment $60
"and we have built a hard-to-beat G Stock car"

And for $10,000: "The E30-chassis BMW 325is is a performance bargain on used car lots around the country and a fearsome competitor when prepped right. .... Can be found for less than $3000, leaving $7000 for a thorough rebuild and preparation." [Although in BMW pools, the E36 is considered a better pick for DSP, although the debate is enraging still.....budget is easy to see]

        $15,000: C4 Corvette in A-stock.

Rally, $5K = CRX, Sentra SE-R, GTI; $10K = SCCA Production GT class: Mazda 323 GTX, Toyota Celica All-trac, Eclipse GSX, Talon TSi AWD

Daily drivers: $5K = 1g DSMs "There are numerous reasons for choosing this car. First, it's turbocharged, all-wheel-drive car available today for five grand--less in some cases. There is a tremendous aftermarket support (if mods are desired) and it's easy to find one for sale.

$10K = 94+ Acura GSR. $15K = BMW E36 3 series. "....good aftermarket, trusty brakes, strong engines with torque, etc"

The years have clearly brought down the prices, but some are no news to the group. Some of these cars are still the popular budget performers, even though swapped civics have seriously taken off. And now by the looks of GRM 2005 challenge, RX-7 V8s are becoming commonplace.

        - - - -

In this months issue of SPORTS CAR magazine (has a vette and viper on cover), they have an article on best sports cars under $5000. Winners are Mazda Miata, BMW E30, Toyota MR2, VW GTI, and Mazda RX-7.

Cars left off the list IMO: 1g DSMs, 240s, Sentra SE-Rs
