    e30 convertible rep

hey i have an alpine e30 convertible that was just freshly s50'd and i really want to make it look like an m3. i have to get it resprayd anyway and i wont be able to walk for atleast a month so i may as well do body work while im at it. anyone have experience with fitting m3 fenders and bumpers on a cabby?

if you want steel m3 bodywork I can tell you it's not cheap, and some parts are getting hard to come by these days.

i was thinking about flaring my stock fenders. but i love the m3 fenders so much. im running esm bbs rep 16x9s in the back and 16x7.5 front and and i wanna get really low. i would actually kill to have a car that looks like vlads. if i pooled all the money ive put into this car i could have had an e30 m3. but im obsessed with the convertible and im never going to get rid of it no matter what.

actually, the steel bodywork is really much cheaper than you would think. new quarters for a coupe are less than 500 each. new fenders are less than 250 each. for that price, it doesn't make any sense to take the time to fab up something that will probably look jacked up anyway. you probably won't be able to find factory quarter panels for a vert. i have not bothered to look, but i am told they are nla. you will, however have a really HUGE problem finding a front bumper unless you go repro. i have seen pretty much non existent front bumpers sell for up to 800.00 complete and in good shape. new you say? over 3000.00 for all the parts.

as long as you have a 90 and older vert, the parts will fit well. if you car is 91 and newer, you just increased your fabrication work load by about 3x. the good news is: other than the quarters and modifying the sideskirts a little, everything else is a direct bolt on to your pre facelift car.

keep in mind that to do it right, you will need a LOT more than just quarters, fenders, bumpers and sideskirts. think about fog lights(hard to find), bumper brackets, inner fenders for both ends of the car, fuel filler tube, lots of little plastic parts, etc. buying all that new will cost you thousands of dollars. a good deal of it is nla.

your best bet would be to find a cheap parts car. i suggest that you find one that has all the front end body parts, though. the good thing is that you can sell off everything you don't use to recoupe your costs. the car in the photo below cost me about 500.00 after i sold off the extras. i still have a set of rust free lachsilber doors i would sell cheap if anyone needs them. (blatant unethical thread jack!)

good luck with your project. i agree with you that the m3 fenders/quarters are beyond sweet. the truth is that when someone does all the research, they are usually turned off by all the cost and work involved in a project of this magnitude.

^^^ exactly ! Make sure you have a substantial budget, otherwise it will look like you know what and you will regret even starting on this project.
