yeah the nut is still on the bolt, the passenger's side nut came off easy, that one is ready to pop out but the other side's bolt is the one that doesn't want to come off. It just spins and spins but doesn't come completely out, and like I said, the bolt itself isn't moving along with it so I have no clue what that means. Is the bolt's thread completely gone or something?Leave a comment:

They're not loose once you get the nut off, take a pickle fork or a balljoint extractor and pop it off.

^^^ haha not sure.
and one more problem. the driver's side tie rod end is stripped or something. the nut came loose but now it's just spinning and not coming out, I already looked to see if the bolt was moving along with the nut and it's not. I'm considering just dremeling the bolt that is part of the tie rod end out and hammering up the bolt through the hole since the new tie rod ends are on the way anyway.
Any tips, suggestions, or smart remarks?Leave a comment:

You can run regular e36 outers. Just make sure you get the right locking nut for them.Leave a comment:

well, I have all the parts waiting but now I've got this steering rack thing to figure out.
Quick question:
I ordered the 2.75 lock to lock z3 steering rack. it's not coming with the complete tie rod assembly just the innners.
So my question is what fits on the outer side? stock z3 tie rod ends? Should I get something beefier since I'm running without power steering? thanks for your input!Leave a comment:

I've been reading up and it seems this could be my last resort before seriously considering changing the entire rack.
The outer tie rods feel solid, there's no play in them but I have new ones on the way just to be sure. It seems these may have been exactly what the click or two I heard. Which way does what? thanks for the help guys. And I'm assuming it's the one highlighted with the big green arrow correct?Leave a comment:

oh and I bought the flex disk for (steering coupler) because I thought that was the problem originally but now I think I need a completely new rack.Leave a comment:

hey guys, a little update. got into it to move it from one drive way to the other to replace the fender and headlight and I think my steering rack crapped out too.
I don't have power steering and I'm used to the heaviness of the wheel when I'm moving slow. Now it feels like I have power steering but I know I don't, and it swings back and forth a little crazy. Does this mean that the teeth in the steering rack gears crumbled or something? Is there any way to open the rack to see if the gears are ruined?
thanks again for the help R3v.Leave a comment:

yeah, I'm feeling cursed at the moment. I have yet to make it out to a r3v cruise (steering, broken subframe, now this) I'll be pissed if I miss this car show. That'll be like going in reverse, at least last year I was able to drive the car to the show.Leave a comment:
