I would just go with what is meant for your car and not get whats not meant for it.

Why bother? you can get e30 m3 springs for close to nothing. e36 rear springs won't fit, unless they are from a z3.

They will work. For shits and giggles I ran the springs from e36 m3 pss9's on my e30, and it was dumped (I had a wrecked M3 with that suspension on it, and after a few beers it seemed like a good idea). H&R sports may not lower your car at all since, as someone else said, e36 springs are taller and stiffer. Though the H&R will be lower for the e36, they may not actually be for the e30. And finally, your car will most likely ride like shit. Mine didn't ride terribly, but it isn't designed for this car. Because of that it isn't quite right. Sell your H&R's on bf.c and then buy the correct springs. You'll be much better off.

The non-m springs start off big and get smaller at the top, but E30 and M3 springs stay the same diameter all the way up.

I put M3 springs in a stock set of e30 front struts once, With the E30 upper mounts etc. they're the same.

Isnt all this stuff widely known? Its talked about constantly on the 5 lug swap forum.

hmmmmm I thought the e36 struts had springs that got smaller at the top. I know you can use e30 spriings in them for 5 swaps but your using an e30 strut mount when you do that which is what allows you to use them. I'm pretty sure e36 front springs are different than ours. But I'm leaving myself an out here and only going with "pretty" sure. haha :p
