    San Francisco to Seattle O_o

    I tried searching with no success. I was wondering, what precautions you guys take when traveling a long distance? Any input or direction to other threads is appreciated.

    I haven't driven my e30 in about six months. I'm planning on having it up and running by my birthday (July 1st) and taking it on a road trip with a few friends. I'm debating between heading north or south from San Francisco.

    San Francisco--->San Diego--->1,100 miles
    San Francisco--->Portland --->1,200 miles

    I'll be traveling for up to 1,000 miles, how confident are you guys in the e30's character to successfully make this journey?

    Also...With my gears, It seems like I'm doing close to 3k at 70mph. Is this safe to travel like this for hours?

        Hmm, I made a few trips from SF to Humbolt the first couple months I had the car and had zero tempature issues. They were usually straight 5 hour trips too, no over heating what so ever, even tugging along at 2,600-2,800.

          Just make sure your brakes and tires are in good form. Replace all fluids, trans and diff included if youve never done them. Check over your cooling system and accessory belts. Make sure your charging system is in good sorts by testing it.

          Any m20 trip I took, I always had spare accessory belts, radiator hoses and all the other givens. Water oil spare tire etc etc.

          If you come up a week earlier, you can jump on the e30 picnic! :) www.e30picnic.com

                Deffiitly some good points to check out, thank you. I wish I could get my car back a week early, unfortunatly I'm on a restricted license until July 1st.

                Well, I don't plan on making any other major stops besides the one listed. I plan on staying at each destination for a few days. As far as the "in between" drive goes, I plan on stopping every few hours (for 15-20 minutes) to fill up, stretch, etc etc.

                  yea make sure you have no air in your cooling system, im confident you could make it. My old e30 had a 4.10 diff and made 350 mile trips to LA no problem, 3800 rpm at 70.
                  Take all the spare parts you got available, a lot of the time its the little unimportant shit that breaks.

                        Florida to Portland myself, in an e30. Then when I sold my swap car, he drove from Portland, to socal, then back up to Mass with no problems. E30s are tanks if maintained properly.

                          Do you drive around every day wondering if your E30 will get you there? If not, then you'll be fine.

                          You'll stop every 2 hours to pee. Everytime you restart the car it is a new trip to the car.

                            San Diego and Portland are both badass! I suggest Portland/Seattle though. Sounds like everyone already gave you sufficient suggestions.. But definitely bring radiator hoses, coolant, oil, and what ever else you think is necessary for YOUR car, since no one knows your car better than you do.

                            Also, you'll need a few packs of Marlboro Reds, coke, energy drinks, condoms and maybe some water. Have fun and good luck!

                              my IX was at 280k, i drove to sandiego from seattle 4 times and than it broke. (with detours to las vegas)

                              If you are going to make a road trip you gotta prioritize! Portland has alcohol and $4.99 steak meals at all strip clubs, but portland is also fillled with rain and grunge bums. sandiego on the other hand is fine ladies and the best of the best mexi food.

                              the choice is yours... oh yeah your will will make it.
