scum bag move tom tom. How can they legally make money off the results of people without their permission? Its pretty much the users data that's being sold, shouldn't the user be the one profiting?

How exactly do they do this? I thought the GPS unit connected to what ever GPS satellites were in the area. Do they only connect to Tom Tom satellites?

According to the Montreal Gazette : A TomTom satnav gathers speed information automatically and the data is then collected on a central database to help improve lucrative traffic services, telling motorists the quickest route and where there are congestion black spots.

Hate to tell you this but google could do the exact same thing if they wanted too.

Read those EULAs peoples. Almost all have something about collecting anonymous data to use at their discretion.

True about the EULA's, but righteous anger does not equal paranoia. In defense of TomTom, I do believe the user had the option of defeating that data collection, the routing algorithm is regarded as one of the best, and they seem to have taken some action to prevent the data from being used in this way in the future.

I'm still mad at 'em though.
