Two prototype 914s, dubbed 914/8, were built during 1969. The orange 914/8 was the first constructed, at the instigation of Ferdinand Pierch (then head of the Racing Dept), to prove the concept. Powered by the full-blown, 310 hp (222 kW) 908 [flat-8] racing engine, it was based on a surplus 914 handbuilt development prototype bodyshell (chassis no. 914111), hence the many differences from the standard vehicle (e.g., the quad headlights).

when i was a kid my dad had ^that one but black on black. also he had a 78 targa that was polar blue. i remember when he went to a Porsche track day and i rode along with. i think thats when i really became addicted to track racing. i think i was 10 at the time.

I always thought RUF got shipped factory fresh 911 turbos and turned them into BTR's CTR's RGT's etc. Kind of like how Brabus takes new AMG benzes and throws most of the motor away and builds it up again with their parts.

Brabus is a tuner; they're still MBs when they're done... similar to Dinan. Ruf changes the Porsche base enough that they're technically a manufacturer. Your title says "Ruf."
