    SI board batteries?

So I don't know shit about batteries. I was at radio shack and saw some rechargeable 1.2v batteries but I don't know what mAh to get. I don't want to get the wrong kind and fuck up my cluster. Here is a link from radio shack with all different 1.2v AA with various mAh ratings. The ones I saw at the store and was thinking about buying were the Enercell® 1.2V/2500mAh

Welcome to RadioShack's official website. Search and shop for electronics, gaming devices, powerbanks, audio products and business traveling gear.

If the link doesn't work, I searched their website for "1.2v AA"

    Thanks in advance.

If you'd rather just do away with the whole specialty batteries thing, Andrew modified an SI board for me with leads that go to an external battery pack, that just uses normal AA batteries. Never ended up using it because I got a new cluster, so this is just sitting. It does work, just never used it in my car. Let me know if you're interested, I'll let it go for a reasonable price.

If he doesn't take it, I might be interested!

2500mAh is about right iirc, it isn't going to hurt anything if they have a higher mAh rating basically it means they will last longer without power applied to charge them.

Yeah, and they can be either NiCad or NiMH.

Not to thread jack, but I did a remote battery pack a while ago and used 2500mAh NiMH batteries. Worked fine for a bit, then I killed the battery, and my tach died for about 5 months. Took the NiMH's out, and accidentally killed the battery again. When I jumped the car, the tach worked again!

                  Weird stuff.

                    search!

Early SI boards use nicad. Late use lithium cells. They're not cross compatible.

                    Good write up here:
                    Becker Electronics

And here's a link to a thread where I took a boatload of pictures

The remote battery terminal is a neat idea - but then again, we're talking about 6-25 years between replacement.
