Castrol is very good oil - probably the best dino oil. Its valvoline and quaker state you have to watch out for - think teflon and other harmful additives.

            mobil 1 synthetic is great...

unless u have an m20 with 150K+ miles and never changed the piston rings...then u get mad blow-by and lose about 1.5 quarts between every oil change...

plain old castrol gts for me....

I agree with that when I first got my IC i used synthetic and my allowance could not cover cans of oil between changes so I switched back to regualr and wala a lot less leakage.

Amsoil is not dino oil, and it smells like shit, seriously, take a whiff of it, you'll regret it. However, you can really smell when you have a leak heh.

You're not joking. I had a small leak through my head-gasket that dripped down onto the down-pipes. It smelled so fucking horrible.

Reports abound on the E28 boards of 300,000+ original miles on Castrol GTX.

I have 200k original miles on Quaker State 20W-50, and people swear the stuff sucks. Still lays down 143hp to the wheels completely stock, too.

That said, I'm putting in 15W-50 Mobil 1 Syn tonight. No real reason, just believe synthetic to be theoretically superior.

my E28 has almost 300k on the engine, never had the head off, and doesn't burn/leak any oil in 7k mile changes with synthetic. I have run redline, royal purple, mobil 1, now I run castrol 5w30 bmw oil, cuz its cheap to me through my work...
