    Race Skids plate/rack position question

Sorry if this has been covered.. out in shop on phone..

My steering rack is/was mounted in rear subframe holes. When I placed my Race Skids skid plate up under car, it looked like it would have better mounting area to radiator support if rack was moved to front mounting holes in subframe.

When I held the plate up to rear subframe holes, it looked like it just caught the edge/lip of rad support (inadequate).

Any input appreciated. Does moving rack to front holes cause ill effects?
(car due for alignment anyway due to new rack, bushings, arms, tie rods, etc.)

Where are you going to mount the front if not the lip on the radiator support? That's where it's supposed to mount. It's adequate.

You have one on back holes?

I need to check again, but when I first held it up on back holes - then radiator support holes look like they should be drilled like one mm from edge of sheet metal.
      (did't look adequate)

I'm not sure which hole it's in. Whatever the stock position of the steering rack is. You use the steering rack bolts to hold the back of the plate. The front holes should be right in the middle of the radiator support lip.

Ah - my stock position was in the rear subframe holes.

I need to check it again - when I held rear of plate up to front subframe holes - front plate holes were in desired middle of rad support lip area.

When I held the plate up to rear subframe holes - it was like the skid plate was too short.

Man - after all my years of e30 reading and research - I have no idea why there are two rack position holes - and I don't know what happens if you move rack from back to front positions.

There not short there just right. if you move it forward you will not be able to drill and mount it as the radiator will be in the way. It will be just on the edge when installed properly.
