Dark night in Iowa, just got off work around 1am. Driving home I was met with what I could only describe as a "weather holocaust".....blowing 40, thunderstorms, sideways torrential downpour...ya know, the usual Iowa summer stuff. I slowed down to around 35mph as the wipers couldn't keep up with the rain, standing water was instantly forming on the asphalt.........you know where the story goes from here....

Deer finds its way out of the darkness and I see a head come popping out from the a-pillar. Living in LA for the year I was there I was still in "dodge and evade the crazy mexican" mode.....managed to get around the deer, however when the rear suspension unloaded from the countersteer it was all over. Backwards into the ditch to find the power pole square in the middle of the diff.

Regained consciousness, called ambulance. My neck hurt pretty bad, hard to hold up. Seat back was broken, glass everywhere, cold wind and rain mixture with lightning hitting the ground all around me....was like.....fuuuuck. Hospital tried to release me, I was not too sure how I was going to get anywhere, hydrocodone was doing nothing. Next morning the main Doctor pokes his head in and says "you've got a broken neck, time for you to go to Sioux City...like right now.

End result was broken Type 2 C2 Odontoid fracture, luckily only halo brace was needed no surgery. Dodged death yet again, but I sure do miss the shit outta the M3....we had so many plans!!(no to discount the fact I'm alive, I'm sure my daughter appreciates it ;)

Anyways all is well now, living back home in southeast Alaska, got a free e30...cant complain to much.
And about that e30, do 12pt sockets replace eTorx? I'm in a bind and have done this before but bellhousing bolts are a little less forgiving.....and fuck rounding one off....then I'd just have to light the car on fire :D

The next day, trying to look as enthused as possible:

Interesting story. As someone who grew up there, I say stay the hell away. Nothing good ever happens there. Glad you made it through and have a free E30.

Oh, and you'll need a couple different sized female torx sockets for the trans bolts. No 12 point sockets sir.

Yep no 12pt, gave an easy try on a bottom bolt....just not enough surface contact to make me feel safe.
HOWEVER I was noticing the rear wheels both turn the same direction......and the diff tag says S4.10 57
I thought auto 318i's never came with LSD??? Not that I'm complaining...I'm actually pretty stoked! Also correction, this is a 12/84 build...so 85 it is
