Wow... new muffler is so much better

Main point in bold! i.e dont read rest if dont feel like it

So since I bought the car last April the car has needed a muffler. When I got it my uncle and I took the old shit muffler to a welder to have the muffler welded back onto the pipe for my journey from Ohio to Mass. That being done it was still an old Ansa on it that was going to kick the bucket anytime soon. And boy did it.

One day drive through a neighboring town I heard something metal clanking behind me. In my rear view mirror the whole tailpipe was bouncing down the rode. That was in late August. Early October I ripped the whole thing off, just cat and middle muffler on my car. Damn it was loud!

For my birthday(November) I got a muffler. Nothing amazing, a cheap little Bosal. I prepped it with BBQ paint to prevent surface rust and just mounted it today. Started the car up and could hardly hear it running, because I was so use to no muffler. I heard nothing whatsoever. I went down to my local donut place and was drifting all over, but i could hardly hear the muffler.

A new OE muffler is amazingly quiet(compared to having a rust ball), but now I can't shift by ear! Damn! At least I can hear when cops come now, and people dont give me strange stares in my multicolored bimmer with no exhaust!

Why can't you shift by ear? I can hear the engine revs through the firewall in my M10.

I can hear the engine, but I am use to shifting by the exhaust sound. I will have to learn to listen to the engine instead. Even though my engine is quite quiet.
