    Magnaflow catalytic converter part #

My stock cat is rusted out & my car sounds like an airplane. I got a quote from a local exhaust specialist for almost $400 to cut the old one out & weld in a new one of some unknown brand. It seems like magnaflow cat's are a popular option, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which one I need, and I did search a bit but not extensively. It's for a 325is, '87, if it matters. Can someone hook me up with the appropriate part # please? Secondly, is going this route going to be less expensive than the quote I got from the shop? tia.

Yeah, that's what I thought. The shop is legit but that sure seems high. I might do flanges on the cat & pipes so I can run "test pipes" if I do any autocross or track days in the future. Anybody got a part # for me?

Just look on Jeg's website and get whatever size exhaust you need and have it welded up. Look up exhaust shops in your area and try to find an independent one with a good reputation. There's a low key shop kinda in the hood by me but they do great work and are cheap. Brought them a muffler and had them weld it up with new hangers and all and was out the door in 25min and cost me $35. Flanges will certainly hike up the bill no matter where you go, a good highflow cat will have little restriction while keeping you legal and quiet(er).

This is what Jegs has listed for the e30:

Much better than $400, but more than $75, as I expected. Isn't the e30 cat a dual in, dual out?

Dude that shop is stiffing you! I had a shop cut and weld in a new cat in my e30 for 170 out the door. Would have been less but I asked them to relocate the o2 bung to keep it from getting too close to the transmission cross member.

Check rockauto.com for a stock style cat. If I'd wanted to spend the money, I could have gotten one from them for 280 shipped. No cutting or welding involved.
