don't sell it to him under a contract. only AS IS. if he doesn't want it, then sell it to someone else. Sounds like he's trying to scam you

Yeah, if he wants a contract, it only needs to be two words long: "as is"

If he doesn't agree to that, then decline to sell it to him and save yourself the stress.

I understand why he would want to after I have been supplied an engine that was supposed to be in good working order that turned out to have a crook bearing, damaged crank and rods, disaster.

But who does that, maybe he has just been burned like I was and is trying not to put his hand on the fire again, in any case if he wants perfect, go rebuild one from scratch

Don't even bother selling it to him. 99.9% chance of the guy being a doucher.

I might think of that next time I buy foglights - the one I bought last time proved not to be stone resistant! :)

Seriously - no warranty, unless installed in Official BMW Shop of some sort, legally checked contract.

Or you can write it with gothic-type letters, tell him to sign it with his blood, and laugh with evil laugh when he signs it.

Am I the only one that sees the buyer's point? He doesn't want to get shafted with a boat anchor of an engine. Why not just write up a bill of sale listing it as "known good condition" if, in fact, you do know it is in proper working order? Why would he want to install the thing and then pull it right out again just to screw you? He's not asking for a 50,000 mile warranty, just a first start-up guarantee. Seems reasonable to me.

                    Flame away!

I sold him the motor/tranny/harness/ecu for $2100 which I think is a pretty good deal anyways. I spoke to his "mechanic" and the mechanic has the same motor but he crashed his car and supposedly damaged the cylinder head. My fear is that the bullshit contract is written under good faith, and then these guys start swapping parts like mad men and call me when the car doesn't start only to find the motor toast and by then, I'm out a nice motor and $2100.

I know the buyer wants peace of mind but I want it too. If this guy doesn't agree to the motor being sold as is, then forget him. And Jean is right, the motor is tentatively sold but not official by any means.

As is OR, tell him after 2 weeks of driving if a problem arises in the next 2 following weeks you will within 4 weeks time asses if what was wrong 4 weeks prior to the 2 weeks waiting period was subsequent of the condition of the engine prior to the deal wherein you wrote into contract that within 8 weeks you would be ever possibly liable for said engine in any way, shape or form for those given 2 weeks after initial 2 weeks start up and/or installation.

That should take care of it.

The guy asking for the contract probably just doesnt want to get douched by the seller... I myself have been dicked over twice now on two separate occasions by two different people with two different motors. I think its a valid request to say that the motor RUNs and there is no MAJOR issues with it (i.e. compression is good, no knocking - which can all be verified before sale). However.. the guy has got to be stupid to ask for a post installation warranty if he is doing the installation himself
