    1984 318i help?

Okay so I just got a 1984 318i coupe this past Saturday. The guy I bought it from had just had a baby and needed the money so he sold it for what I had. The car is actually in fairly good shape for the price I paid ($600) with the only really bad part being the interior bits. The exterior is about an 8/10 with the only problems being a few rust spots, none in the trunk though except a little on the underside corners of the deck lid, a small spot behind the back of the left rear window and a very small spot on the roof which has already been fixed. The weather stripping is pretty much shot too along with the rubber parts of the diving boards being weathered too but nothing that cant be fixed/replaced easily. The interior is in terrible shape but I wasn't expecting it to be perfect in an almost 30 year old car for 600. The seats are bare with makeshift covers, the shift knob is stripped out on the shifter and just sits there and spins but wont thread and can be slid on and off and the shift boot is dry leather and has torn beyond any possibility of repair. The carpet doesn't have any tears but has a lot of stains, but it being a white car I've already decided to dye the carpet black because I've seen some DIY articles on the procedure. The door panel material is torn on both doors but I have a donor car in mind that is broken down but has an exceptional interior and the seats are perfect as well. My main concern with the car is mechanical, although it made the 90 mile trip home from where I purchased it when I got home it had leaked oil from what either looks like either the intake manifold or where the valve cover bolts to the head, it has the m10b18 fuel injected engine and it looks like the vacuum hoses aren't hooked up properly which could also be part of the problem, I was just looking to get some help to get my project into motion and on the road without me worrying ;)

    Thanks-Matt

    You have a fitting name.

Buy a Bentley manual or find a decent shop in your area that knows BMWs and go to town.

Bentley manual, is a must. Browse the For Sale sections often as decent parts pop up at decent prices. I have an 85 318i so I know the frustration, and the M10 section is weak here so that manual will be your best friend. If you need fresh parts there are a few places that will do you great. Blunttech on here is a parts vendor and you will never beat his prices or service. Maintenance is key but once running proper you will find the little M10 to be slow, but stout. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay.

Congrats on your purchase. Pick up a bentley manual asap. My thoughts arr the oil is most likely leaking from the valve cover gasket however without seeing it I'm just guessing.

Autohausaz.com and pelicanparts.com are good too. But I prefer autohausaz.com.

Also because of the free shipping on orders over $50. I don't know the last time I made an order for less than that. Doesn't hurt that I get my stuff next day in most cases either.

:puppy: That cut pretty deep man..I'll check out the manual cause it seems to be a pretty common suggestion.

I'll have plenty of pics up by tomorrow.
