    381 DME ????

I was thinking 'bout changing the DME in my 325i
from 173 to 382 (tought i've got one in my basement) but it's an 381 :?
can somebody explain where the 381's belongs to ? (wich engine ? and car)

and the DME list on E30.de couldn't help me any bit farther

    TIA Axl Cohen

    M20B20. It's out of a 320i or a 520i

320i or 325i have the same computers in them. they are completly interchangable. I am not sure if that DME is compatable with your AFM or your wiring harness though.

I've tried today to change them result :
          It'll work, better idle IMO

but I don't see a clue why they are interchangable :?

they are interchangeable because they are basically the same motor. the computer is just adjusting things from the oxygen sensor, which should stay 14.1 (lambda) the same reguardless of motor size. the extra power from the 2.5 is in the internals of the motor, not the computer. the timing curves and all the rest of that stuff is the same for 2.0 or 2.5. It is the same way with the 318, and 316 euro models. I think I had a 381 DME in my last 320 touring and the chip tuning designed for a 071 worked just fine in it, except it raised the idle to about 850 or so.

Lambda is actually 14.7:1 but I am sure you knew that and it was just a typo 8)
