I'd toss a compression gauge on it and see what happened. You could be lucky

Exactly, commonly known as a money shift, not simple downshifting.

Yeah that was my next step. Gonna do it on Monday when I throw the new drive shaft on.

Ill keep you guys updated and throw up some pics in the future.

Some past cars of mine have been:

1985 VW Golf Diesel recently died post 300k, my pickup truck
1994 Miata with a megasquirtpnp, garret gt2560r, custom fmic, 6 speed, torsen lsd, 2200lbs/260whp = fun
2005 mazda rx8 which frankly was about as slow as the golf but handled like a cat on velcro
1990 Merc 300TE wagon, awesome cruiser

That is an unfortunate welcome into the E30 world. However, once you begin to repair the damage, you [I]will[I] become addicted!

I have heard that with a turbo the RX8 would be an absolutely fantastic car, the power, or lack there of, being the only thing holding it back.

Yep that is true. Though with a LS motor being only a bit heavier than a rotary and vastly more reliable id be much more tempted to do that.

No motor pics for the moment.
