Ok... I live in Pennsylvania. Here if you purchase a car you have to get the title notarized when you transfer it. i.e. I physically have to sit down with the owner of the car, he has to sign the title over to me, I sign it and it gets notarized. That is from my own personal experience.
I have now purchased a car that has an Indiana title and I am flying out there on Friday to pick it up and drive it home. I have talked to my insurance agent who will fax me the insurance card and the insurance begins on Friday morning.
My wife is bitching and being a know-it-all (a rank which only I may properly claim!) and saying that I have to get the title notarized when I get the car or this guy could call the cops and I could get arrested for stealing a car.
However, I have read Indiana Code 9-17-3 "Expiration, Replacement, and Transfer of Certificates of Title" Section 3, Item 2 states, as I read it, that all he has to do is sign the back of the title and I am golden. As I am not a resident of Indiana I can't go to the notary (DMV, whatever) because they can't issue me PA plates there (duh woman!). That is my responsibility to do as soon as I get to PA, which I can do on Saturday morning since I have proof of insurance.
Anybody else have input? Am I wrong (which would honestly be the very first time in my entire life!)?
Thanks
Jared
