Yes he did. When he first came to me for the parts to build this car he was going to go the cheap route and use only what he need to get the look of a M3 convert. After talking with him and our bodyshop he decided to do all the body work as if it rolled of the assembly line. For those that have not seen the car up close you will never understand how well it is put together. I was lucky to have seen this project from the start to finish and go for a ride in it. He has even offered to let me drive it on numerous occasions and I have had to respectfully decline, it would make me want to build one. You cant blame him for his asking price, if someone is willing to pay it then good for him and all of those that say they could build one for cheaper. Alot of people have critized his build and his decsion of power plant, but for living in the state of California your options are limited and putting a s14 in a replica car that as one had already stated in a convert is a waste. Vazbro built a convert that could be driven and had the feel and look of a new car and did a good job of it. The little things that needed to be addressed, are things we all run into after building a project and just need to be finished, Unfortune for Vazbro he hasn't had time to finish them. I wished I had the money to buy his car because I know the real cost of building it and it was not cheap.

A car is worth different amount in different people's eyes.
This car was clean as funk when I used to see it in person, maybe not $45k though.
    Maybe around $20-25k.

This was exactly what I was thinking from scrolling to the top towards the bottom:

"Bidding has ended at $45k" - Wow lucky seller and buyer!
"Note this is not like those other M3 Vert replicas" - Here we go again..
    "Real M3 panels" - Okay
"US S50" - LOL. not only is it not an S14, it's not even an S52, it's an S50, and a US one at that.
"Clarion head unit" - All that work to get and they put in an ugly aftermarket HU.

All and all, this is a $25K Vehicle at the most. really can't believe it got this much. You're paying for a replica..that's not even a good replica?

A buddy of mine is a car collector and he has 2 geniune E30 M3 'verts. I've spent some time with them. I first thought they were cool, but it soon became obvious that the car has no real purpose.

The whole point of the E30 M3 is that it's a Grp.A homologation special. It's the king of the momentum cars with an amazing chassis. Cut the top off and it's just another '80s cabrio with a floppy chassis and loose handling. Why do that to an M3? If you want an E30 cabrio, there's nothing wrong with an M-Tech II.

BTW, like you, I also love cabrios. My daily driver is an '88 560SL. Some cars are made for cruising, and some are made for the track. No point in taking a track star and trying to turn it into a cruiser.

Exactly. If you're dying for an E30 M3 'vert, you can buy a REAL one for less money. This looks like a nice, clean car (with a number of issues BTW) but it'll always be a replica. And it's a replica that doesn't even have the correct engine.

What's the logic in paying more for a replica than the real deal?
