I am one of the people (maybe the only one?) on here who mentioned selling the S14 and doing an S5X swap. I agree with you in principle, but I think there has to be more than one way to skin a cat, er, have a DD M3. No, they are not cheap cars to restore, or own in general, but should that necessarily mean that they are out of the reach of less well-heeled (less well-wheeled?) enthusiasts? Selling the S14 may be one way to fund restoring this abused M3, rather than see it stuck with further wood screws. Or screwed in general... Rebuilding an S14 engine is well-likely a $10K proposition, which may mean that the car sits, returning to the elements for years while it waits to have a working engine again.
I don't own an M3, because I personally would rather have one with the S14, and they are currently out of my financial reach. So, again, I agree with you in priniciple...but principles don't unfortunately always jive with reality.Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

Whether it be quickly, or slowly, I dont thing that one should just choose that soft option just because one doesnt have an abundance of cash. Have patience, and slowly work on your car and wait for the sweetness. Patience is a virtue. I bought this car in May 2001 and it was far from the car it is today. Mine is only a strong suggestion. I know very well about the instant-gratification frame of mind because I did that in the worst unhealthy ways for a long time. In the end, were all different people with diffrent philosophies. I may not agree with it, but fuck it, who am I?
tazer engage!! ;) jk man. I only bring my opinion, albeit strong, correct or not. In the end its your car and I have no right telling you what to do or how to modify your car. But be under no illusions that once that M/S50 is in there, youre not going to do the whole PITA to put the S14 back in there.world renown Harry Potter expert

The engine is one of the main points of the car that made it legendary, has a rich history of competition wins, and has a great story to tell as opposed to the absolutely run-of-the-mill and common and almost not worthy of the "S" designation US S50 or even lesser M50 and provided it with the wherewithal to do the other awesome thing it did .....mainly handle and well, gave it its peaky character, and neutral weight balance. I know its more cost-effective, but Jesus just get a regular e30 and put all that money into getting C/O's, possibly some body modifications and a swap if youre gonna do that. At least youd have more money to play with and youd save yet another E30 ///M3 from bastardization..... The E30 ///M3 is not a "budget" car you can cut corners with that "looks cool". If you dont have the money to treat it as it should be treated, then look elsewhere (or go balls to the fucking wall like Ryan dd with his M3 and be original about it). We seem to all be aficionados of this car, then truly value the car. Even though doing all these swapping shenanigans only makes my car increase in price......
Whats that quote from "Road Trip" about "Thats why they call it (something or other), if it was easy it would just be 'the way'".
end of old-fashioned, old man-like, purist rant.
I love your car. :)Originally posted by z31maniacI just hate everyone.

If you want an S50/54 swap then put it in your current E30. Everyday there are less and less E30 M3's left, dont go out and kill another one by dropping a different engine into it. either restore it right or sell it too someone who can do it right. And yes they are very expensive to restore. I bought my modded 89 a year ago for 18k I have spent the past year restoring every bit back to 100% stock. The total for the restore will surpass 30k, thats with me doing almost all the work but she will be perfect.
