help me pass emissions r3v! Almost there.

Sup guys. I have an M50NV and my exhaust setup is S52 headers and downpipe to 2 to 1 resonator to a universal muffler, no cat. I went and got inspected today and I almost passed. I was running 1 gallon of 93 octane (though im not chipped, darn me), and half a gallon of denatured alcohol. Here's my emissions sheet, you can see I passed high idle with flying colors, but failed idle by only a little.

Down in Tucson if you ask them to pass or bribe they have to call the manager and file a complaint. Then the Police get involved and you get a ticket... Not a good idea.
And my car wont pass either. They can get the probe to read my exhaust haha. I'm gonna fix it today with the hope of passing.

I'll say it again.... Leave a hundy taped under the hood.

I didn't say to tell them or ask them anything. It's your emergency hundy in case something happens. Duh

                      Here's your strategy,

$5 of 87 octane. 87 octane burns more complete than 93. Your hydrocarbons will decrease.

Half a gallon of denatured alcohol just as you've already done.

Add this mix to an empty tank.

I passed at a state facility, without a cat, doing just this on a chipped M50.

                      On a side note-

Worn engine oil will contribute to hydrocarbon emissions, as well as a faulty o2 sensor, plugs, ICV...etc. The list is woefully long, and contributing to the proper combustion and functioning of your engine. If anything rings a bell, take care of it.

Worst thing that can happen is you fail, again. Or someone who knows what a catalytic converter looks like notices your car is sans one.

Get a Magnaflow highflow cat welded in.

Good to know coming from a Jerseyian.
Engine oil is pretty dandy, O2 sensor is new as well. I'm going to gap the spark plugs, run some 87 with alcohol and see what happens. I'm trying to think of other things I can improve. I cleaned out my ICV recently..
How big of a difference should I see running 87 over 93? Cause I know my car isn't made to run 93.

Too much money, I'd rather get those universal cats off eBay, unless they're really shitty ?

I suffered from the same scenario, that being- passing at high idle but being failed at low idle. My ppm was ~260. I believe Nj regulation is 220.

                            I didnt get a report when I passed, just a sticker ;)

Gotcha, I'm gonna do what I stayed above and hope for zee best. Worst that can happen is that I order a universal cat from ebay and weld it on.
