Possibly fuseible link in the rear pos. battery cable. Thats what happened to me. It would crank and I wouldnt get fuel or spark.

So, if it was an ETA and it cranks....can it still be a fusable link?! I never had one of those.... and it sounds like his car is still a dual pump car.

If it doesn't turn out to be either of the Fuel pumps then it is most likely the CPS. Just watched a nearly identical situation happen at GutenFest last month with my buddy Jeff's car (aka e30_325es).Comment

swapped to a spare 153 ecu and it fired up, but died from the shock of slamming the hood closed. so i found a slightly lose connection on the ignition coil. seems more solid now, but i did kill it once after putting back to 173. not sure if the problem is solved with the tighetened ignition coil AND the 153, or just luck
