    Convertible top questions

I recently picked up a Mauritius Blue late model vert as another project. I have a few questions regarding the top.

    1. Is there any diy thread about overhauling the top mechanism? It's a power top, but I have to assist it in some areas. What are the common failure items that I should replace?

    2. Where is the best place to buy a new soft top? It looks like the OEM one is around $700. I see some on ebay from various sellers ranging from $350-$550. Who here has bought a top from ebay? Who did you buy it from? How do you like it? I want to make sure I get a quality part, and not something that will fall apart in a couple months/years.

    Thanks

    Erik

See the "e30 Convertible Training Video" link

I've purchased 2 German canvas tops from Quality Tops off eBay and they are excellent quality.

There is a yahoo group called bmwe30ic with a lot of good information. You will find a link that has information about the convertible tops. There is a gear re-build for the motor that is listed. I have heard this "patch" will take care of the issue. I opted to convert mine to a manual frame and top, so I have no direct experience with it...
